There is nothing quite like the grief you feel for the near and dear ones who are no longer with you. You try to reconcile yourself to their absence by thinking that they are still around, looking over you, always. It is just that being awake, we do not have the means to speak and hear the ones who sleep. May the goddess give you peace, travellers further ahead on the path. I still remember your voices and your love, and miss having you all around quite terribly sometimes.

and damn just yesterday ficciones arrived from flipkart...
uh, the facebook button has been determined to do a vanishing act since i've shifted to the new blogger interface and template. have tried a number of online solutions over the past half and hour, to no avail. let me know if you know how to get this to work.
and, about your second comment, that's great man. ficciones is awesome. even mick jagger is supposed to have been spotted reading it in the sixties. go figure. i'd recommend getting both the "collected fictions" and "collected non-fictions" editions of borges available from penguin, both contain fresh translations by andrew hurley from the spanish. the "collected non-fictions" is also available in a penguin classics edition called "the total library".
JLB is probably my favourite author. great that you're reading him. i don't think i'll ever definitively finish reading him. it's more like a process for me, as i grow older (and waterdrop by waterdrop read more), i seem to be grasping more of his erudition, and can read his intertextual echoes more sensitively.
of course, i mean, this "sensitivity" is a pathetic and blurred mirror-image of how perceptive an ideal reader (JLB himself?) would be... but no, he had an audience of compatriots in a literary framework spanning eternity in mind, i'm sure. i'll get back to you on my progress through the bibliographic labyrinth in say, fifty years time, and we'd recall this conversation, and talk about the reading we would've done over our lifetimes. now that would be properly Borgesian :)
JLB turned out to be too much allusive for me....i had read somewhere words like mathematics...
brevity ...logical puzzles etc attributed to him....
and thats why i bought ficciones
of course the logical puzzles are there.....
but too much erudition..i wud say...
and regarding ur comment ..the phrase "fresh translations"....
intriguing....
na, na, 'fresh tranlations' simply alludes to the fact that the other penguin editions contain translations by other people.
