reading people who have interesting things to say has this effect on you. most of the blogs i visit are written by people with an eye for the beautiful. vignettes from their midsummer days and nights, memories to treasure from oh-so-many lovingly remembered yesterdays.
mellow records, the feel often like a Norah Jones album.
i think i like talking of the night. of terror, destruction and despair, of memories so bizarrely transfigured that most people would think it wise not to subject their readers to this gloriously demented journey to the banks of the river Styx.
Cerberus stands in the corner, delicate hands tucked into his pocket, smile of recognition playing on his face as he sees me come in. i curse silently under my breath and smile back. one habitually and almost unconsciously borrows from a reserve of masks to get by in these parts. i should have known that the motherfucker would be here.
this is my Hell after all. the demons do not look like demons at all. almost predictably, they are clad either in perfect Italian suits or the latest Fabindia. the conversation veers effortlessly from Kafka's nightmares to the woodcuts of Albrecht Durer. Escher stairways lead onwards into the brilliantly lit gloom. this Hell does not provide the comfort of shadow. there is nowhere to hide. no privacy, no escape.
i meet my hostess, Eurydice. she anxiously asks my opinion about the decor, and somewhat risquely tells me that she is exhausted from the night gone by. sexual tension is rife in the air, and i'm supposed to feel flattered at her estimation of my intelligence. i'm supposed to get the joke. for those of you who are still wondering, what she meant was that she had been fucking all night. she offers me some of Pluto's burgundy. the bouquet reminds me of wild roses and the way my first love smelt.
i lose my way soon enough. i seem to be walking around in circles forever. i can't help it. there is too much i don't care to reveal. tonight's party, ladies and gentlemen, shall therefore come to an early end. we shall meet again in my newest nightmare soon enough.

So long then.
