it feels strange these days to walk through a mild evening rain. you think inconsequentially of how those eyelashes would look with a few drops of rain, as if all the laughter had somehow reminded her of the endless streets she sometimes finds herself walking by. all truth is somehow false, and the only moments you know and remember are those where there has been nobody to hear what you say.
like an all too swift minute spent watching the rain falling on their lake, walking barefeet aimlessly with the grass smelling just like afterrain grass does. and then, you know, and all you want is to run away from it all. you don't want to smile or raise an arm in greeting for a long time, only hear Norah sing her song, and watch the night as it begins arriving in the city outside.
your personae before the world have already started reflecting a transparent veneer of concealed yesterday and death. there are anarchic guitars screaming out their rage to the world, echoing around in your head from invisible earphones turned way up and loud.now and then, your friends turn to look at you when they notice how you haven't spoken a word in a hour or so. your eyes are focussed on an uncertain middle distance which is solely your own, never to be shared with the world.
you feel though that every stranger you meet on the street, every shadow whose eyes meet yours for an instant and then look elsewhere away, it is only they who truely know. most of the rest is a desperate lunge for an anchor on a dark, starless night. fundamentally, what you and everyone else you know seeks is reassurance, and reassurance alone. it is as if we spend our lives falling endlessly down an abyss, and to stop and wave a greeting at a long lost friend is an instant of slowness, of solace, of freedom from the mindnumb terror of the endless fall.
there isn't much else to say.
it has now stopped raining.
